Meet our Caring Hearts: Amber Findley

For Amber Findley, being an administrator is about leading by example and fostering a family-like environment. As executive director of Pleasant Valley Health Care Center for more than 20 years, Amber’s tireless dedication and compassion for her residents and employees alike embodies the true spirit of caregiving in the long-term care industry.

Amber’s journey in healthcare began as an LPN in 1984. However, her course shifted during her pursuit of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Ohio University, when she discovered her passion for long-term care. Motivated by her desire to make a meaningful impact on residents’ lives, she obtained her LNHA license in 1992 and was appointed Assistant Administrator/Director of Nursing at Pleasant Valley Healthcare Center.

Driven by a commitment to continuous growth, Amber pursued a Master’s in Health Administration. In 2002, she accepted the role of Executive Director at Pleasant Valley, where she has since worked tirelessly to uphold the highest standards of resident care.

At the core of Amber’s leadership philosophy is leading by example. Whether washing dishes or administering vaccines, she readily rolls up her sleeves to assist wherever needed. She wears a smile, keeps a calm demeanor, and stays positive regardless of the day’s challenges.

“I think that goes a long way when you’re managing people when they see that you get in the trenches with them and are willing to do whatever it takes, then you get a lot of respect that way, and they’ll try to do the same for you when you ask.”

As an administrator, Amber is no stranger to the challenge of attracting passionate individuals to the long-term care profession. Despite the demanding nature of the job, she maintains that it requires a special individual to provide care and services to one of our most vulnerable populations. Pleasant Valley is fortunate to have several long-term employees.

“We are like family,” she said. “You know, we’ve all been through a lot together, and I feel like we take on the residents as a member of our families.”

While Amber finds fulfillment in leadership, her passion lies in providing quality care to residents. “I have always loved what I do and try to make a positive difference in my residents’ lives,” she said. “It gives me great pleasure when I can make their days better. Every day is different, and you never get bored.”

Beyond her professional endeavors, Amber maintains a small farm alongside her high school sweetheart and husband of nearly 35 years.
