Meet our Caring Hearts: Wanda Brock

When you meet Wanda Brock, you can’t help but notice her kind spirit and contagious smile. Her joy radiates through the halls of Annandale Healthcare Center, where she is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and has worked for more than 32 years.

Wanda’s inspiration to pursue a career in healthcare started with her grandmother, who spoke to her about the fulfillment of helping people.

“This was something I always wanted to do. I always wanted to help people,” Wanda said.

Early in her career, Wanda became close to a resident who would ask her about life outside of the facility. They would laugh and smile together, and it brought Wanda joy. The close relationship is part of what inspired her to continue to work in long-term care because residents often have longer lengths of stay.

“I remember when I first started working,” Wanda said. “I was very headstrong and determined to do anything and everything for the residents. To this day, I love putting a smile on the residents’ faces, and I’m proud of this today and every day.”

Wanda says the opportunities at the facility have been part of why she’s stayed. She started in restorative and worked in transportation before becoming a CNA. However, her purpose, above all, is to help others.

“I remember some years ago when we got a bad snowstorm. I stayed at the facility 24 hours helping with residents,” Wanda said. “It felt good to help those that needed it.”

Her advice to others in the field is to be strong, be yourself and be willing to express or talk to your supervisor when you need help or have a concern.

As the CommuniCare Family of Companies marks its 40th anniversary in 2024, we are proud to recognize compassionate, dedicated team members like Wanda. Follow along as we continue to celebrate our history with more stories that showcase the caring hearts within our organization.
